Controls

🛠️ Operation

  1. The system will come on automatically based on a global schedule, or you can override it using the control tablet.
  2. Confirm the storytelling track is playing and intelligible at the viewing area.
  3. Adjust level in Q-SYS if needed.

🧰 Maintenance

  • Check the speakers and amplifier health periodically.
  • If the narrative is silent, confirm the Axon DTH1620 is online in Q-SYS and that its Dante audio link is present.
  • If only part of the cluster is silent, check the Fostex speaker wiring back to the amplifier.
  • If the track does not start on schedule, verify the audio player and schedule on the Q-SYS Core.

⚙️ Configuration

Applications Used

  • Q-SYS Designer: audio playback, routing, level control, and scheduling on the Q-SYS Core.
  • QSC amplifier control (via Q-SYS): status and level for the Axon DTH1620 network amplifier.

Connection Details

Audio is sourced from the Q-SYS Core and delivered to the exhibit amplifiers over Dante/AES67:

  • Q-SYS Core (CTL01-01): 10.10.0.2 (LAN-A) / 10.10.0.3 (LAN-B)
  • QSC Axon DTH1620 (AMP02-01): 10.10.0.62 - drives the Fostex full-range cluster
  • Pendant speaker is driven by the shared QSC CX-Q4K8 network amplifier (AMP01-01): 10.10.0.10 (LAN-A) / 10.10.0.11 (LAN-B)

Updating Media

The Joe McGee narrative audio is hosted on the Q-SYS Core, not on a media player.

  1. Open the design in Q-SYS Designer and connect to the Core.
  2. Replace the audio file in the audio player component that feeds this exhibit.
  3. Save and deploy the design, then confirm playback and intelligibility at the viewing area.

🔧 Troubleshooting

The exhibit audio is too quiet for visitors

Why

The speaker output level needs adjustment in the Q-SYS design.

Do this

  1. Confirm the narrative is playing and intelligible at the viewing area.
  2. Report the low level to KMI. Speaker levels are adjusted remotely in the Q-SYS design and verified on site.

Still stuck

Report the level; there is no on-site adjustment for visitors to make.

Audio is heard outside scheduled hours

Why

This may share the media-server condition described on the Harnessing the River page, and has been intermittent.

Do this

Note the time and whether it is before the 7:00 AM start or after the 6:00 PM shutdown, and report it.

Still stuck

Report any recurrence with the time observed.

If the first action does not resolve it, contact the KMI AV support team: Brian Alexander, 214-799-1850, Brian.Alexander@OnyxIntegrations.com.
